The accessVIS system allows electronic submission of immigration requests to Visa and Immigration Services and provides a source of communication for updates and notifications.

It is a Cloud-based Webex Calling, which is reliable and flexible with great features for users at a cost savings to the campus. Webex Calling is a single app that will work across a multitude of devices, including your desktop computer, laptop, and cellphone. In many cases, a traditional desk phone may not be needed.

Teaching and Learning ToolsStony Brook University utilizes PointSolutions (previously Turning Technologies) polling clickers for interactive, wireless, student responses in classrooms and large lecture halls. PointSolutions allows instructors to float a poll bar above any application, and gives the ability to track each student's performance data generated during a lesson or team activity. This tracking produces student and class performance reports with respect to lessons.

Electronic Post Office (EPO)
Email and CollaborationStony Brook University maintains an electronic post office (EPO) for all students, faculty and staff. The EPO is essentially a mail forwarding device that allows everyone at the University to have the same generic email address (@stonybrook.edu) so that no matter what email system Stony Brook may adopt or what domain names change, people will still receive their email. Please note that you must be on the campus network to view or update this service.

Email and CollaborationGoogle Calendar is the calendar feature offered with Google Apps for Education. It allows users to easily create, share, edit, and delete meeting invitations, calendar events, and tasks. These are easily accessed and synced between computers and mobile devices.

InCommon Certificates
Servers Storage and BackupStony Brook University is registered with the InCommon Certificate Service, a means for IT partners and the University community to easily and affordably obtain digital certificates for the safe sharing of online resources, such as the securing of departmental Web servers.
The InCommon Certificate Service provides unlimited SSL, encryption and code signing PKI certificates for all domains owned by Stony Brook University for one fixed annual fee, allowing Stony Brook to issue certificates based on technical and security needs. The certificates are generated through Sectigo, a trusted commercial certificate authority.

Malware Shield
Networking Phones and TVStony Brook's Data Network Services and IT Security teams added additional security to the campus network during the summer of 2010. A network name server was implemented to check the URLs of websites that users on campus visit against a list of known distributors of malware. Instead of visiting a site that is known to be a distributor of malware, the Web browser is redirected to a malware shield (Web page) which advises users why the site they are trying to reach may have been flagged as being potentially harmful.

Web ServicesThe Web Services team in the Office of Marketing and Communications provides training and support for the OU Campus Content Management System. A series of responsive page templates branded in the Stony Brook look and feel have been designed to give non-technical administrative personnel the ability to quickly update content without having to be a graphic designer or programmer.

Business SystemsStony Brook University uses PeopleSoft as its core administrative system for managing Financial, Human Resources and Student Administration operations.
Phone Directory and People Search
Business Systems Email and Collaboration Networking Phones and TVDoIT feeds information from PeopleSoft and other systems into the campus phone directory and people search online directory.
In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), student data is not accessible from Stony Brook's People Search tool, only that of faculty, staff, and emeritus.

Qualtrics
Teaching and Learning ToolsQualtrics is a hosted survey and research tool that Stony Brook University has subscribed to in order to conduct quality surveys with the end result of collecting and analyzing data. It is available to all students, faculty, and staff who have an active NetID.
Qualtrics cannot be used for clinical purposes or to collect data considered Protected Health Information (PHI). Confirm with IRB if you can use Qualtrics for your research.
RD Gateway

An RD Gateway allows you to more safely connect through Remote Desktop Protocol to a Windows system because connections use HTTPS instead of connecting directly.

Respondus 4 is an application that allows instructors to create tests and question pools, offline, and then upload them to Brightspace.

Business SystemsThe RF Business System consists of the Oracle suite of grants management, financial and human resources applications. It is primarily a transaction-processing and report-generating system used by the administrative offices that conduct research activity and serve the Stony Brook research community.

SB Alert
Email and CollaborationSB Alert is the University's emergency notification system used to alert the campus community of major emergencies, immediate threats or impending situations that could pose harm, disrupt classes, impact facilities, activities, or other operations. When activated, the system can send a voice, alphanumeric page, email and/or text message to all of the devices that you enter into the SB Alert - Contact Information tab in SOLAR.

This service is accessible to all on-campus residents, enabling you to stream content to your computer and mobile devices while you're staying at Stony Brook.
SharePoint
Email and Collaboration Web ServicesSharePoint Online (or Sites which is part of the University's Office 365 application suite) provides collaborative websites for groups such as research teams & committees. While DoIT encourages faculty, and staff to first investigate Google Drive or Google Sites to handle collaborative projects among teams, SharePoint is certainly a viable alternative. SharePoint is HIPAA and export compliant.
SINC Sites
Classrooms and Computer Labs Printing Support ServicesSINC Sites (Students In Need of Computers) are public computer labs/study spaces that allow users to access both Windows & Mac computers. SINC Sites provide printing services, tech support, laptop loaner program, BYOD spaces, and access to numerous academic software titles.
The Melville Library SINC Site, HSC Commons, and HSC Coller Computer will be closed from November 27 - December 1, 2024. We will return to the Fall Schedule on Monday, December 2, 2024.
Single Sign On (SSO)
Accounts and PasswordsIn an effort to decrease the number of passwords required to access computing applications across the University, DoIT has incrementally implemented its Web-based, NetID Single Sign On (SSO) service since 2008. Users can log in to campus applications such as Google Apps for Education and WolfMart without having to sign on multiple times or remember many passwords. The SSO service is only used for those applications accessed through a Web browser. Client-based applications, such as the mail client on a smart phone, do not use the Stony Brook SSO.

SOLAR
Accounts and Passwords Business SystemsSOLAR is Stony Brook University's enterprise-wide, self-service system which provides faculty, staff, and students with online access to manage personal information. Students use SOLAR to register for classes, print schedules, view and pay bills, update personal contact information, view transcripts, and submit student employment timesheets. Employees use SOLAR to update personal contact information, view vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, and much more.

SUNY BI & SUNY FMS Financial Systems (SUNY Web portal)
Business SystemsSUNY BI & SUNY FMS are Financial Systems (SUNY Web portal) used by department account managers to view state account allocation, expenditure and encumbrance balances. The system is also used by staff to reconcile AEPC Visa card purchases.
SUNY CPD Points
Stony Brook University is a member of the SUNY Center for Professional Development (CPD). As an active member Stony Brook receives a number of professional development "points" that may be used by SB employees to pay for the cost of registration to SUNY CPD-sponsored academic program events.
Symantec (No Longer Available)
ALERT: Symantec Antivirus Software will be sunsetting on October 1st and will no longer be available for download from Softweb.
- Windows Users: We recommend Windows Security, which is built into the OS and is free from Microsoft.
- MacOS Users: We recommend XProtect, which is built into the OS and is free from Apple.
- Other antivirus solutions include Avast and AVG, which both have free solutions for your personal Windows and Apple devices.
Talent Management System (TMS)
Business SystemsThe Talent Management System is used for hiring at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook Medicine, and Long Island State Veterans Home.

TV Broadcast & Distribution
Networking Phones and TVDoIT's TLT Educational Technologies department maintains the local origination system for both the residential and hospital cable TV system. Each system has locally-originated channels (see channel lineup below) that includes satellite, electronic bulletin board, and video playback systems. Most of the residential channels are programmed by other departments, but run through the Educational Technologies system. Educational Technologies is not responsible for other programming (purchasing entertainment or news channels) or transmission (reception problems). Students experiencing problems with reception or concerns about non-locally originated programming should contact their RHD.
Virtual SINC Site
Classrooms and Computer Labs Printing Software Teaching and Learning ToolsThe Virtual SINC Site provides a way for students, faculty, and staff members to access site-licensed, academic software titles directly from their personal computers from either on or off campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students can also use the Virtual SINC Site to access the Print From Anywhere service using any device or operating system.

NOTE: The VPN requires a Stony Brook email address and Duo 2-Step login prior to downloading and installing the VPN.
WolfieNet
Networking Phones and TVWolfieNet-Secure is Stony Brook University's recommended wireless network on West Campus, Southampton, Manhattan, and parts of East Campus. It is available to all faculty, students, and staff. New locations continue to be added as wireless technology and equipment continues to be upgraded and enhanced in order to handle the growing number of devices seeking to connect to the network. For visitors to the University, WolfieNet-Guest is the recommended network to use.

WolfieNet IoT
Networking Phones and TVWolfieNet-IoT (IoT = Internet of Things) is a wireless network that is only available in the residential network. This should only be used by games and mobile devices that cannot authenticate using the WPA2 Enterprise protocol.

Networking Phones and TVThe WolfieNet-Secure wireless network is one of SBU networks available for connecting via WiFi to many of the SBU Campus resources and internet access. WolfieNet-Secure is the recommended network for all students, faculty, and staff while on campus. Use your NetID to gain access to this secure network for your personal mobile devices.
