Getting Started

Google Drive is the recommended data storage service for most types of University data. Unlike other data storage services available to University users, Google Drive provides unlimited storage. Google Drive includes dozens of critical security features specifically designed to keep data safe, secure and in your control. These include encryption in transit as your data moves from your device to Google, as it moves between Google’s data centers and when it is stored on your mobile device.

Data stored in Google Drive is available through a web interface, mobile applications, or on your computer through the desktop application. Changes made on one device are synced across all your devices. Google Drive also provides access to previous versions of files you may have changed.

Tools of Google Drive

Google Drive allows for you to create several different file types - each one will open in its own respective editor. To create a new file, sign into Drive, click the NEW button in the top left, and select the file you'd like to create (more information on file types below).

Docs

Create and edit documents online, AND multiple people can work on the same document at the same time!

Slides

Create collaborative presentations; your presentation will be stored on your Drive, so it's accessible anytime, from anywhere.

Sheets

Spreadsheets your team can work on together; Google has many formulas that allow you to easily process data.

Forms

Skip the paper - gather information easily with Google forms, which can also store data in a spreadsheet, so it's easily sorted, shared, and analyzed.

Team Drives

A Team Drive* is a place where departmental or official student group teams can create, store, and search files, without having to manage who owns what because the team owns the files, not individuals. And if a member leaves the team, the files stay in the Team Drive. You can belong to multiple Team Drives, and they'll all be available wherever you access your My Drive.
