  Current Students can find their SOLAR ID number on their Stony Brook ID Card or reach out to the Registrar's Office.
• Former Students
  If you do not remember your 9 Digit Stony Brook ID Number, also referred to as SOLAR ID or EMPL ID, you can perform a lookup using this tool. 
  *This does not include former employees who have never taken a class or future or current students.

Lost Cards

Lost cards can be replaced at the Campus Card offices:

Main Campus:  Stony Brook Union, Suite 207
East Campus:  Health Sciences Center, Level 3, Room 162

All University communications are sent to the Campus email address, so be sure to check your stonybrook.edu email account regularly. If you have not been issued a campus address or your account has been disabled (e.g. you have graduated and left the campus), communications will be sent to the "Home" address first (if one has been entered), or "Other" automatically. The information below will show how to update your personal email address on record with University. Please keep all personal email addresses current throughout your time at Stony Brook.

Adding a personal email address

1. From the SOLAR Home Page, under Security and Personal Data, click Email Addresses

2. Click the Add An Email Address button

3.Fill out *Email Type and *Email Address, then click the Save button

Deleting a personal email address

Click on the Delete button and then click Save. Note: You cannot delete the Campus email address.

Changing a personal email address

You can only change your Home or Other email address. You cannot edit or change your Campus address here. To change your Home or Other email address, highlight all or part of the address and overwrite the *Email Field and then click Save.

Logging into SOLAR

Go to:  www.stonybrook.edu/solarsystem

NOTE:  The SOLAR password is case sensitive.

The SOLAR Welcome Page

• To login click the SOLAR LOGIN button.
  • Enter your netID and password.
• Save this page to your Browser Favorites by:  On your keyboard, press <Crtl> + D
• Your SOLAR session will time out after 20 minutes of inactivity.
• Remember to save the information you've entered frequently.

Navigation Tips

• Click Home to go back to the Homepage.
• Click Add to Favorites to bookmark a page to refer back to it (within SOLAR).
• Click Sign out to leave SOLAR.

Other Functions

1. Use the options at the top right of the records list when viewing records..
   

   • Customize - the data by personalizing the columns and change the sort order
   • Find - a keyword among the records
   • View All - data with rather than scrolling through the pages
   • - Pops data into its own window
   •  - Download the data into a spreadsheet.  *You may have to scroll horizontally to see this button.
   •  - User the arrows to scroll through the pages of data
   •  Some of the report pages have a Download to Excel button. Click this button to download the information to an Excel spreadsheet.

2. At the bottom of most pages..
   
   Save – FREQUENTLY!!
   Return to Search - brings you back to the search page so that you can search for another record.
   Next in List - brings you to the next record in the search result list. This is especially helpful when you are approving time sheets.

3. You may see the word Processing blinking in the right upper corner of the window. You cannot do anything until it stops blinking.
   
4. Using the Look up Function:

Some fields have a magnifying glass (Lookup button) next to them. Click this button to go to the Lookup page for this field. 
In this example we are looking up 4-digit Zips:

• Click the Lookup button on this page and a list of valid values will be displayed.
• Use the arrows or View All to scroll through the choices.
• Click a value to select it.
• Or, click Cancel to return to the original page without selecting a value.
• Click Clear to clear the search and start over.

New Members of the University

If you are a new member of the University and you receive the Invalid ID Number error message, you may need to set up Challenge Questions within your SOLAR account. The Password Reset Tool uses your own information as authentication methods and keeping your information updated is best practice.

To set up Challenge Questions, please log into your SOLAR account. Please select Security and Personal Data, then select Challenge Questions Set Up. From here, you will be prompted to create 3 questions that will be used as the Challenge Question authentication method in the Password Reset Tool. 

• If you are not prompted to create 3 questions, then the system has automatically created 3 questions for you using information that's on record for you.

After creating the 3 challenge questions, it's best to review that other information is correct by selecting the Addresses, Email Address, and Phone Numbers options.

Current Members of the University

If you are a current member of the University and you receive the Invalid ID Number error message, there may be an issue with your current status with the University. We recommend that you follow up with the Registrar Office if you are a current student/returning student or your department if you're an employee to confirm your status in PeopleSoft.

For all other issues, it's recommended that you contact the Service Desk at the contact information below.

In the case of an emergency the University needs to know who to contact on your behalf.

1. In a browser, go to stonybrook.edu/solar and click SOLAR LOGIN
2. Sign into SOLAR with your Stony Brook ID# (9 digits) and SOLAR password.
3. From the SOLAR Home Page, under Security and Personal Data, click Emergency Contacts (if you don’t see Emergency Contacts, click more and then click Emergency Contacts)
4. Click Add an Emergency Contact to add a contact. Then complete the Emergency Contact Detail page. Be sure to enter Name, Relationship, and Phone:
   1. For Contact Name, enter first and last name
   2. For Relationship, select the most appropriate relationship from the drop down
   3. Enter the Contact’s Phone: If the phone is the same as yours, click to check the box “Same Phone as Individual”, select the phone type, and your phone will populate; otherwise, enter the phone number and, if applicable, extension and/or country code (i.e., the country code number).
   4. Optionally, enter Contact’s Address: If the address is the same as yours, click to check the box “Same Address as Individual,” select the address type, and your address will populate; otherwise, click Edit Address and add the correct address.
   5. Optionally, add another phone number: Click Add a Phone Number, select the phone type, and then enter the phone number and, if applicable, the extension and/or country code (number). 
5. Click Save and then when you see the Save Confirmation, click Ok.
6. If needed, on the main Emergency Contacts page, click Edit to change an existing emergency contact.
7. If needed, on the main Emergency Contacts page, click Add An Emergency Contact and follow the steps above to add another contact.
8. If needed, on the main Emergency Contacts page, click Delete to delete an emergency contact (you cannot delete the primary contact, so if you need to delete someone that is indicated as the Primary Contact, uncheck the primary contact box first, then click delete for that contact).
9. On the Main Emergency Contacts page, be sure your primary contact is checked. 

To access SOLAR, you'll need your Stony Brook University ID and SOLAR password.

Stony Brook University ID

A Stony Brook University ID number is required to log in.

Employees

Employees find their ID number on the Stony Brook University ID card they are issued at the time of their hiring.

Students

Prospective students are assigned a Stony Brook ID number when they apply to the University. When the Office of Admissions receives a completed student application, a Stony Brook ID number is sent to the applicant in a letter and an e-mail. Applicants who do not receive this number should check that they submitted a completed application before contacting the Undergraduate Admissions Office at (631) 632-6868 for further assistance.

Admitted students receive their Stony Brook ID number in their official letter of acceptance and during orientation. It also appears on their Stony Brook ID card which resident students receive when they check in to their residence hall for the first time and commuter students receive at Convocation.

SOLAR Password

SOLAR passwords are different from NetID passwords. If you're logging in to SOLAR for the first time, use your initial solar password. Also note that these passwords are case sensitive.

Logging in to SOLAR

1. Go to www.stonybrook.edu/solarsystem
2. For User ID, enter your Stony Brook University ID number 
3. For Password, enter your SOLAR Password 
4. Select Sign in
    

Signing out of SOLAR

To sign out, near the top right corner, select Sign out. Also note that your SOLAR session will time out after 20 minutes of inactivity.

SB Alert Emergency Information
Make sure you tell us how to alert you when there's an emergency, immediate threat or impending situation on campus. The system can send a voice message, an alphanumeric page, email or text message to all of the devices that you enter on this page.

•  From the SOLAR Home Page, under SB Alert Emergency Information, click SB Alert – Registration

After reading the information, click the SB Alert-Contact Information tab.

Follow the instructions to add email address, phone and text messaging/paper numbers that you would like emergency alerts to be sent to. Or elect not to receive these alerts. Click Save.

1. On your SOLAR Home Page under Security and Personal Data click Addresses:
   
2. Select ADD A NEW ADDRESS to add a new address. Enter the address information and click OK.
   
3. Under "Address Type" choose which address type you would like to associate with the address and then select SAVE.
    
4. In this case, a Local Address was added but the same applies for either of the Address Types:
   
5. If you currently have an address and it is incorrect click edit next to that address type to update the information.  
6. Employees may need to also notify other applicable areas as shown here

1. Go to the SOLAR login screen and click SOLAR Account & Password Help
2. You will be asked to verify the information necessary to authenticate you, so that you can access the password reset tool.
3. After authenticating, you will be given the option to select your SOLAR account and then proceed with creating the password.
4. The password requirements will be displayed on the page when creating the new password.
5. Once the password change has been processed, you will then be able to log into your SOLAR account.
