Student Laptop Loaner Program
Need a laptop? SBU students with valid SBU ID may borrow a laptop for use anywhere.

OVERVIEW
- Dell laptops are available for borrowing.
- While supplies last, laptops will be available on a first come, first served basis.
- Laptop availability and online requests can be created from the Patron Portal @ https://stonybrook.webcheckout.net/sso/patron#!/
- Check on "Student Laptop Loaner Program"
- Students must read and acknowledge the Laptop Loaner Agreement
- Check-outs/returns done in person at the Melville Library Tech Station (room S-1460) during open lab hours.
- Students may loan out 1 laptop for a week or up to 60 days; with the option for one 60 day renewal. The short & long term loans are based on the student’s eligibility. All lending periods will end at the end of the current semester for students who are not enrolled in an upcoming semester.
- Students have administrative privileges on the laptop.
- Laptops are available only while supplies last.
GUIDELINES
- Students must complete and submit the Laptop Loan Agreement Form prior to borrowing a laptop.
- While supplies last, 1 laptop per student available on a first come, first served basis.
- Laptops must be borrowed and returned in person at Melville Library Tech Station (room S-1460) during open lab hours.
- Any stored data, installed apps, or other information will be erased after the laptop is returned.
- Students are not allowed to reinstall the Operating System of the laptop or in any way format the hard drive.
- Students are not allowed to take apart the laptop or in any way remove components from the laptop such as the hard drive or memory.
- Students are not allowed to attach stickers or other personalization to a laptop or laptop accessories. This is considered damage to the equipment and billable.
- Borrowers must follow all the loan policies outlined. Failure to comply will result in the loss of borrowing privileges.
Lost/damaged/late charges:
- Replacement cost of up to $1500 for lost or stolen laptop
- Replacement cost of $58.82 for lost, stolen, or damaged power adapter
- Replacement cost of $58.82 for laptop sleeve or bag
Fees:
- A non-refundable late fee of $23.53/day up to $117.65 (five days), thereafter charge is for a lost laptop ($1500)
- Charge for damages (repairs) is up to $1500, based on the cost for replacement part(s)
- Students must abide by SBU’s Appropriate Use of Information Technology – Policy 109.
- All loans must be returned by the loan return date. All fees and fines are final and non-refundable
- Laptop loan is a privilege and can be revoked if abused.

- Laptops must be borrowed and returned in person at Melville Library Tech Station SINC Site (room S-1460) during open lab hours.
HOW TO RENEW A LAPTOP
In person:
- Visit Melville Library SINC Site (room S-1460) during open lab hours
Online:
- Log into the WebCheckOut portal: https://stonybrook.webcheckout.net/sso/patron#!/
- Go to the eye icon on the top left corner, and select "Current Checkouts"
- Click on the allocation that appears
- Click “Renew" below Actions
- Select an end date that is during the semester.
- If after selecting the date you do not see a dropdown menu with times, the Laptop Loaner Program is not available on that date.
- Loans may only set/renewed into the final examinations period during the last week of classes during the semester.
- Select an end time that is not already full (full is at 10/10).
- Click the save button (floppy disk) in the top right (within the green bar that says "Ready to Save")
HOW TO RETURN THE LAPTOP
- Melville Library SINC Site (room S-1460) during open lab hours.
- See DoIT’s Technology Consultant for an initial inspection of the laptop, power adapter, and sleeve. You will be notified of any initial visible damages.
- Further in depth hardware inspection will be done within 30 business days after the laptop is returned and you will be notified of any repair costs
CONNECTIVITY
- Students must sign into the laptop with their Stony Brook NetID while still in the Library.
- You should always connect to WolfieNet-Secure while on campus. Connecting info can be found on the card attached to laptop.
LAPTOP HARDWARE/SOFTWARE
- Students have administrative privileges and may install any software needed to complete their coursework.
- Students are not allowed to make any modifications to the hardware.

PRINTING
- Laptop will print to any Print From Anywhere Station while on campus.
- How to Print/Scan/Copy on Black and White printers (HP)
- How to Print/Scan/Copy on Color printers (Toshiba)
