Vevox

Log into Vevox and create polls/surveys in Vevox first; then add that to Brightspace.

1. Once you've created your content in Vevox, log into your Brightspace Course, select Content, and then module where you want the Vevox poll

2. Select Existing Activities and scroll down and select Vevox

   
3. In the Add Activity window, choose the Vevox session you want to add: 
   Tip: Choose one you already created or click + to create a new session
4. Choose Live polling or a Survey (an existing one or create a new one)
   Tip: Use live polling for live sessions and survey for asynchronous, at-students-own-pace polling. Read here for differences between live session and survey options.

5. In participant identification, select Identified
   Tip: To sync to Brightspace Grades, you must select Identified. Names will be hidden for other participants but will be visible in data reports. If you choose “Anonymous” grades will not be assigned to students. Read here for details on the Participation Identification setting

   

6. For Scoring options, choose at least one option and the number of points:
   1. Correct (points awarded for correct answers)
   2. Participation (points awarded for any answer; no points for missed/skipped questions)
   3. Combined (a single column in the Grades with a combined score, 50% of the score for participation and 50% of the score from answering correctly)
      Tip: Each option you select will create a grade item/column. For most cases, select only one scoring option
      More on Vevox Grade Items: If you select “Correct” scoring, that grade item is added right away and will have the same name as the Vevox Session (e.g., Welcome poll). 
      If you select “Participation,” that grade item is added as soon as the instructor selects “Open in new tab” from the Brightspace Module where the Vevox Content was added. The participation column has the poll name followed by “participation” (e.g., Welcome poll participation).
      If you re-open a Vevox poll attached to a grade item in Brightspace, new scores will overwrite any previous scores

7. For LTI score syncing, select Automatic or Manual.
   Tip: For most cases, use Automatic. Read here for more on Manual sync, including why you might use it 

   

Scoring Options

For Scoring options, you can select one or more options; each will create separate grade items/columns. You can select 

• Correct or
• Correct and Participation or

• Combined
  Tip: If you select Combined, you can choose what percent of the total score to allot to correct answers vs participation (e.g., Correct answers 30% of the score; participation 70% 

  

Viewing Scoring Options After Setup

You can view/change scoring options after intial setup directy in Vevox

1. In Brightspace, navigate to the Vevox item in Content and click on it
2. Click on the OPEN IN NEW TAB to open the poll directly in Vevox

3. Once in Vevox, on the left click Data. Then near the top right click LTI SYNC
   Tip: LTI SYNC only works if you select Manual for for LTI score syncing

   

Scoring Options and Grade Items

Vevox Grade items/columns are added to Grade book slightly differently for each type of scoring

• If you select Correct, that grade item is added immediately and is named the same as the Vevox activity, e.g., “Welcome poll”
• If you select Participation, that grade item is added only after you click “Open in a new tab” to set up the poll in Vevox; it is named with the Vevox activity name followed by “participation” e.g., “Welcome poll participation”
• If you select Combined, the grade item is added immediately and is named the same as the Vevox activity, e.g., “Welcome poll”

Grade Syncing

There are 2 options that determine how grades are synced with brightspace: Automatic and Manual

• For most cases, select Automatic. When an activity is completed, grades are synced with Brightspace immediately.
• If you select Manual, grades are not automatically passed from Vevox to Brightspace. To sync grades in this configuration, select the “LTI sync” option on the data page in the Vevox dashboard. Click this link to read more about manual syncing and other configuration options.  

Re-opening Polls

If you re-open a Vevox poll that is connected to Grades in Brightspace, the score for the students' second responses will overwrite any previous score in Brightspace Grades.

1. Open PowerPoint
2. Click the “Home” tab
3. Click “Add-ins”
4. Click + More Add-ins
5. Search for Vevox

6. Click Vevox for PowerPoint and then click the Add button

   
7. In the Connect your Vevox Account section that opens on the right side, click "Get Started"

8. When prompted to Log in, enter your Stony Brook email address and click Continue

   
9. Follow the prompts to log in and use Vevox polls
