FeedbackFruits can be accessed via the Content area in Brightspace by following these steps:

1. Select Content on the navigation bar

2. Choose an existing, or create a new module that the FeedbackFruits activity will be placed in

3. Select Existing Activities within the module, and then choose FeedbackFruits. This will open FeedbackFruits and allow you to create an activity.

Captioning for Video Files

If you have a video file that you are uploading to an Interactive Video assignment in FeedbackFruits, you can add captioning to it in one of two ways:

1. You can upload a .srt or .vtt file in the subtitles section when creating an Interactive Video assignment
2. You can also generate captioning automatically using FeedbackFruits auto-generate caption feature. Please keep in mind however that this feature is in Beta testing and issues may occur.

Captioning for YouTube Videos

When uploading a YouTube video to an Interactive Video assignment, captioning from the video is not applied once it is uploaded to FeedbackFruits. Unless you have access to a captioning tool, do not use this feature with YouTube videos. For more assistance with accessibility, please contact CELT. 

FeedbackFruits is accessible and WCAG compliant. Please note however, that content uploaded to FeedbackFruits is not automatically made accessible, and instructors must verify that all their content is accessible prior to uploading to FeedbackFruits activities. Please see this article for further details.

FeedbackFruits does not automatically make your content accessible. Instructors are responsible for ensuring that all files (e.g., PDF, Word Document, PowerPoint) uploaded to the Interactive Document activity type are accessible and meet the WCAG Level AA technical standard.

All videos embedded or loaded to the Interactive Video activity must include closed captioning and a transcript. For more information on captioning within FeedbackFruits, please refer to this article.

In FeedbackFruits, some activity types will automatically have assessments applied to them, such as Peer Review, Group Member Evaluation, and Team-Based Learning. Other tools, such as Interactive Document, Interactive Video, and Automated Feedback, require grading to be manually added by the instructor. 

Adding the Grading Option to FeedbackFruits Assignments

To manually add grading to FeedbackFruits activities, follow these steps:

1. After setting up your activity, select Add learning step

2. Locate the Grading option and select Add

Configuring Grading

Instructors have the ability to allocate weights to different requirements of the activity to determine the student's score. In the image below, you can see how percentages are allocated for an Interactive Video assignment. Students receive 50% worth of credit for viewing the video, 25% for participating in a discussion thread started by the teacher, and 25% for their score on the multiple-choice questions in the activity. 

To add requirements to add weights to, or to adjust the weights for each requirement, select the Configure button. Please note that your total weight must equal 100%. 

Grading Options

After configuring the weighting for the assignment, you can then adjust the options for the grading in the Grading Options section. Here you have the following options:

• Publish grade as either:
  • Percentage
  • Pass/Fail
• Require participating for grade
  • If disabled: All students receive a grade, regardless if they completed the activity or not (if incomplete a 0 will be applied)
  • If enabled: Only students that open the learning activity receive a grade, and for any non-participants the grade is blank.

• Scheduling & auto-publish grades (select the Configure button to review options)
  • Publish grades: Schedule a date and time for grades to be published
  • Auto-publish after completing graded step: If enabled, it will publish scores automatically to students who completed all parts of the assignment.

Activities in FeedbackFruits must be manually linked to the Brightspace grade book. You can do this by following these steps:

1. Select the link to your FeedbackFruits activity in the content section of Brightspace

2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and search for a section titled Activity Details. In this section, look for an option titled Assessment. Click in this area to add a grade item for this activity. 

3. If you have already created a grade item for this activity manually in your grade book, you can choose the drop-down selector in the assessment section, and then select the grade item to link this activity to. 

4. If you have not created a grade item in the grade book ahead of time, you can create and link a grade item to the activity by selecting New Grade Item in the assessment section. 

Per this article, activities in FeedbackFruits will automatically appear in the Brightspace grade book after they are created. If you wish to delete an unwanted grade item created by FeedbackFruits, you must first disassociate the activity from the grade item following these steps:

1. Click on the activity in the Content area of Brightspace

2. Once clicked, there will be a section at the bottom of the screen titled Activity Details.  On the right side of this section, you will notice an assessment.

3. Click into the assessment area, and select the drop-down selector. Here, choose the option that says No Grade. Once finished, select Save to finish. 

4. Once completed, you can then delete the grade item from your grade book following the steps in this article.
