LUMI

Lumi leverages Anthropic’s Large Language Model (LLM) Claude by using content provided by the course creator.

SUNY’s agreement with D2L protects Faculty IP by ensuring that:

  • D2L does not own input content.
  • D2L does not own output content.
  • D2L will not use input content to train the Generative AI models.

SUNY’s agreement with D2L requires that users will not represent that output content is human generated when it is not. Therefore, a syllabus statement or similar notification should be used in courses where Lumi is used

D2L Lumi is integrated directly into Brightspace.  Lumi features appear within the tools you're already using for content creation and assessment in Brightspace.

Key Ways to Access Lumi

  • Content Creation (Lumi Practices): When you're creating or editing content files (HTML topics) within the Content tool, you can often access D2L Lumi to generate practice questions.
  • Quizzes (Lumi Quiz): When building or modifying quizzes, Lumi may be available to help you generate questions based on your course content.
  • Discussions and Assignments (Lumi Idea): Lumi can also provide AI-generated suggestions for discussion topics and assignment ideas. These features typically appear within the respective tools for creating discussions and assignments
