A network name server was implemented to check the URLs of websites that users on campus visit against a list of known distributors of malware. Instead of visiting a site that is known to be a distributor of malware, the Web browser is redirected to a malware shield (Web page) which advises users why the site they are trying to reach may have been flagged as being potentially harmful.

  4. MySBfiles is a network storage option for all students, faculty, and staff. Up to 2 GB of data can be stored in your personal MySBfiles which is backed up regularly on an automated basis by University servers. You can access your MySBfiles from on or off campus using a Web browser.

  5. VPN

    Stony Brook's virtual private network (VPN) allows access to certain Stony Brook applications, resources, and services from off-campus.   
    NOTE:  The VPN requires a Stony Brook email address and Duo 2-Step login prior to downloading and installing the VPN.  

  6. The SBU Faculty Profiles website is available to Stony Brook University faculty across all campuses. The new site is a single place where faculty can update and review their faculty profile. The site acts as the primary repository for several data points and aggregates data from other sources. NetID authentication is required to sign in to update a faculty profile.

SOLAR is Stony Brook University's enterprise-wide, self-service system which provides faculty, staff, and students with online access to manage personal information. Students use SOLAR to register for classes, print schedules, view and pay bills, update personal contact information, view transcripts, and submit student employment timesheets. Employees use SOLAR to update personal contact information, view vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, and much more.

     

  8. Softweb is Stony Brook's software distribution website. It is the host from which members of the campus community may download different software titles

  9. SUNY BI & SUNY FMS are Financial Systems (SUNY Web portal) used by department account managers to view state account allocation, expenditure and encumbrance balances. The system is also used by staff to reconcile AEPC Visa card purchases.
