  1. Each Monday morning Campus Announcements is sent by electronic mail to all active New York State and Research Foundation employees, and any alums, retirees, students, FSA employees, affiliates, or community members that have subscribed to receive the mailing.

  5. The TLT Student Support Desk assists students, faculty and staff in utilizing different technologies available at Stony Brook University and in the SINC Sites. The student consultants who work for the TLT Support Desk offer help to users in person, over the phone, through email  and live chat. The TLT Student Support Desk is equipped to answer questions and troubleshoot common problems.  If a consultant is unable to help with a problem, they will create and submit a trouble ticket which will be forwarded to the appropriate DoIT staff member for review.

Stony Brook University utilizes Turning Technologies' polling clickers for interactive, wireless, student responses in classrooms and large lecture halls. TurningPoint Cloud allows instructors to float a poll bar above any application, and gives the ability to track each student's performance data generated during a lesson or team activity. This tracking produces student and class performance reports with respect to lessons.

  8. Stony Brook University uses PeopleSoft as its core administrative system for managing Financial, Human Resources and Student Administration operations.

  11. Google Contacts stores and organizes contact information for those you communicate with and the Stony Brook Directory. Contacts can contain basic information-like names, email addresses, and phone numbers-or extended information, like physical addresses, employers, departments, job titles, or custom notes. Contacts sync with the other Google Apps (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Hangouts) and mobile devices so you have easy access from anywhere. 

  12. SafeAssign is software built into the Blackboard learning management system which checks several sources for potential plagiarism. SafeAssign helps instructors make informed decisions about reporting students for academic dishonesty.

  13. Stony Brook University has a testing center on campus in Frey Hall.  
    Instructors who are interested in having students conduct online exams outside of class time should feel free to fill in the request form.
    This center contains 64 machines and is scheduled by appointment only.

DoIT's TLT Educational Technologies department maintains the local origination system for both the residential and hospital cable TV system in accordance with the Policy on Use of Campus Cable Television System. Each system has locally-originated channels (see channel lineup below) that includes satellite, electronic bulletin board, and video playback systems. Most of the residential channels are programmed by other departments, but run through the Educational Technologies system. Educational Technologies is not responsible for other programming (purchasing entertainment or news channels) or transmission (reception problems). Students experiencing problems with reception or concerns about non-locally originated programming should contact their RHD.

  16. Google Hangouts is the successor to Google Chat. It's great for sending a quick chat message, calling phones from your computer, or holding meetings with people spread over campus or the world! It is now one of the core apps covered under the terms of service agreement Stony Brook (SUNY) has with Google.

  17. Google Calendar is the calendar feature offered with Google Apps for Education. It allows users to easily create, share, edit, and delete meeting invitations, calendar events, and tasks. These are easily accessed and synced between computers and mobile devices.

  18. DoIT Training and Development aims to promote and support employee development by providing high-quality training programs designed to meet individual, group, or departmental needs and objectives. 

  19. SOLAR is Stony Brook University's enterprise-wide, self-service system which provides faculty, staff, and students with online access to manage personal information. Students use SOLAR to register for classes, print schedules, view and pay bills, update personal contact information, view transcripts, and submit student employment timesheets. Employees use SOLAR to update personal contact information, view vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, and much more.
