Microsoft Campus Agreement for Students

The Division of Information Technology has an agreement with Microsoft allowing ALL registered Stony Brook students access to the latest version Microsoft Windows as part of their technology fee. The software will not be re-issued if the original is lost or stolen, therefore, it is very important to save the installation file and license key number.

Who is allowed to use the software?

Matriculated students at Stony Brook University are granted the right to obtain software covered under the Microsoft Campus Agreement.

How many copies am I allowed?

Students are allowed one copy of each software package until upgrades are available. Windows can only be installed once. When the product key is activated, Windows cannot be installed a second time.

Can I resell, copy, or donate the software?

No. Your right to use this software is non-transferrable. Therefore, you cannot give it to another person.

Can I return the software?

No, not if you downloaded the software from Kivuto's OnTheHub.com network.

What happens if I lose the software and the license key?

If you lose your license key code for any of the software, please call Microsoft at (800) 642-7676. Lost software and licenses will not be replaced.

Can I get future software upgrades?

If during the time that you attend Stony Brook University a new version of Windows is released, you will be eligible to receive it. However, you will no longer be eligible to receive additional upgrades after your student status changes.

Is the license valid after I leave Stony Brook?

When you graduate, you will be granted software ownership. If you leave Stony Brook without graduating, you are required to remove the software from your personal machine.

Where can I get Microsoft Office and Visual Studio?

Microsoft Office can be downloaded at no extra charge through Stony Brook's Office 365 subscription

Microsoft Visual Studio can be downloaded from Dreamspark, a Microsoft program that supports technical education by providing access to Microsoft software for learning, teaching and research purposes. For more information, see Stony Brook's Microsoft Visual Studio Web page.
