  13. In an effort to maintain efficiency and reliability of computer equipment at Stony Brook University, DoIT's Customer Engagement and Support department has instituted software support standards.

  14. Qualtrics is a hosted survey and research tool that Stony Brook University has subscribed to in order to conduct quality surveys with the end result of collecting and analyzing data. It is available to all students, faculty, and staff who have an active NetID.

    Qualtrics cannot be used for clinical purposes or to collect data considered Protected Health Information (PHI). Confirm with IRB if you can use Qualtrics for your research.

  15. Commonly referred to as Echo, Echo360 is a versatile and reliable system that automatically captures lectures and converts classroom voice, video, and visual-aids into high-quality media files. These media files can be accessed online from devices such as tablets, phones, and computers. Instructors can also utilize Universal Capture (Personal), which allows them to record from their own computers.

SharePoint Online (or Sites which is part of the University's Office 365 application suite) provides collaborative websites for groups such as research teams, committees, and course-related activities. While DoIT encourages students, faculty, and staff to first investigate Google Drive or Google Sites to handle collaborative projects among teams, SharePoint is certainly a viable alternative.  SharePoint is HIPAA and export compliant.

SOLAR is Stony Brook University's enterprise-wide, self-service system which provides faculty, staff, and students with online access to manage personal information. Students use SOLAR to register for classes, print schedules, view and pay bills, update personal contact information, view transcripts, and submit student employment timesheets. Employees use SOLAR to update personal contact information, view vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, and much more.

It is available to all faculty, students, and staff. New locations continue to be added as wireless technology and equipment continues to be upgraded and enhanced in order to handle the growing number of devices seeking to connect to the network. For visitors to the University, WolfieNet-Guest is the recommended network to use.
