  7. The Talent Management System is used for hiring at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook Medicine, and Long Island State Veterans Home.

SOLAR is Stony Brook University's enterprise-wide, self-service system which provides faculty, staff, and students with online access to manage personal information. Students use SOLAR to register for classes, print schedules, view and pay bills, update personal contact information, view transcripts, and submit student employment timesheets. Employees use SOLAR to update personal contact information, view vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, and much more.

     

  9. Google Groups makes it easy for groups of people - such as project teams, departments, or classmates - to communicate and collaborate over topics of common interest.  Request a Google Group for easy group email distribution.

The Web Services team in the Office of Marketing and Communications provides training and support for the OU Campus Content Management System. A series of responsive page templates branded in the Stony Brook look and feel have been designed to give non-technical administrative personnel the ability to quickly update content without having to be a graphic designer or programmer.

To prevent the inadvertent transfer of sensitive and/or personal data to unauthorized parties, the New York State Office of General Services (NYS-OGS) requires all surplus IT equipment to be cleansed of all data before disposing or repurposing. It is expected that all data be erased from the hard drive (and any other media) in such a manner that it cannot be recovered. Customer Engagement and Support can provide this service on an as-needed basis. It is recommended that when repurposing equipment (e.g. moving machines between personnel or departments), that the machine be cleaned of any University data before the swap.

    The InCommon Certificate Service provides unlimited SSL, encryption and code signing PKI certificates for all domains owned by Stony Brook University for one fixed annual fee, allowing Stony Brook to issue certificates based on technical and security needs. The certificates are generated through Sectigo, a trusted commercial certificate authority.

This system helps simplify the room request/reservation process and provides analytics on space needs and assignments, therefore establishing a benchmark for efficient space usage on campus.

  15. SB You is a web publishing platform powered by WordPress that lets you quickly create professional-looking websites. Faculty, staff and students can create a single site or as many as they want for a variety of purposes such as course information, team activities or personal blogs and portfolios.

  16. LastPass Premium is a password management service that allows you to set, store, and safely share unique and secure passwords for all of your personal accounts.

    LastPass Premium is free for personal use to faculty, staff, and students (use LastPass Enterprise for work accounts).

     

  17. Certain employees may need mobile communication devices to support the legitimate business requirements of campus departments in achieving the University's objectives for excellence in education, healthcare, and research. It is essential to note that employees of Stony Brook University, utilizing Research Foundation or State funds, are prohibited from procuring telephone equipment, supplies, or services from local cellular service provider stores or service centers. Any requests for equipment, service, or user name changes with wireless service providers must adhere to this procedure. Personal use of the University’s mobile communication equipment and services is strictly prohibited. 

  18. Stony Brook has moved from Blackboard to Brightspace. Spring 2023 was the final semester that Blackboard was an option for courses, and Blackboard retired on 10/4/2023.

  19. Google Calendar is the calendar feature offered with Google Apps for Education. It allows users to easily create, share, edit, and delete meeting invitations, calendar events, and tasks. These are easily accessed and synced between computers and mobile devices.

The WolfieNet-Secure wireless network is one of SBU networks available for connecting via WiFi to many of the SBU Campus resources and internet access.  WolfieNet-Secure is the recommended network for all students, faculty, and staff while on campus.  Use your NetID to gain access to this secure network for your personal mobile devices.
