FeedbackFruits is a tool integrated within Brightspace, which is designed to enhance student engagement and learning through interactive activities and peer feedback tools.
Features
Below are the many features available to us in FeedbackFruits:
Make your video material interactive! Upload your video and insert questions and discussions on the play bar for students to engage with.
Upload a document, highlight areas of it, and add question cards or discussion topics for students to interact with to create an engaging asynchronous learning experience.
Create survey questions for students to interact with, and place them in groups automatically by survey results.
Create quizzes in two parts, an Individual Readiness Assessment Test (iRAT) which students complete individually, and a Team Readiness Assessment Test (tRAT) that students complete in pre-created groups.
Have students submit an assignment, and require them to provide feedback to their peers on their work. Feedback assignments/requirements are highly customizable, and writing tips can be provided to students to provide guidance on how to provide effective feedback.
Create or upload a rubric that is relevant to an assignment or group activity, and then allow students to review/rate each other based on the rubric criteria.
Frequently Asked Questions
Grading
In FeedbackFruits, some activity types will automatically have assessments applied to them, such as Peer Review, Group Member Evaluation, and Team-Based Learning. Other tools, such as Interactive Document, Interactive Video, and Automated Feedback, require grading to be manually added by the instructor.
Adding the Grading Option to FeedbackFruits Assignments
To manually add grading to FeedbackFruits activities, follow these steps:
- After setting up your activity, select Add learning step
- Locate the Grading option and select Add
Configuring Grading
Instructors have the ability to allocate weights to different requirements of the activity to determine the student's score. In the image below, you can see how percentages are allocated for an Interactive Video assignment. Students receive 50% worth of credit for viewing the video, 25% for participating in a discussion thread started by the teacher, and 25% for their score on the multiple-choice questions in the activity.
To add requirements to add weights to, or to adjust the weights for each requirement, select the Configure button. Please note that your total weight must equal 100%.
Grading Options
After configuring the weighting for the assignment, you can then adjust the options for the grading in the Grading Options section. Here you have the following options:
- Publish grade as either:
- Percentage
- Pass/Fail
- Require participating for grade
- If disabled: All students receive a grade, regardless if they completed the activity or not (if incomplete a 0 will be applied)
- If enabled: Only students that open the learning activity receive a grade, and for any non-participants the grade is blank.
- Scheduling & auto-publish grades (select the Configure button to review options)
- Publish grades: Schedule a date and time for grades to be published
- Auto-publish after completing graded step: If enabled, it will publish scores automatically to students who completed all parts of the assignment.
Please note! Scores will not publish automatically to Brightspace unless you link your activity to the Brightspace gradebook manually.
How to Link Your FeedbackFruits Activity to Grades
FeedbackFruits activities will not automatically link to your Brightspace grade book. In order to link the activity to grades, follow these steps:
- Click on the link to the activity in the Content area of Brightspace
- This will open the activity in a new window. Below the activity will be a section titled Activity Details. In this area locate where it says Assessment, and choose Add a grade item…
Linking to an Existing Grade Item
If you have an existing grade item in your grade book, you can click on the drop-down selector and choose the grade item you wish to link the activity to. After linking, remember to select Save.
Creating a New Grade Item to Link
If you need to create a new grade item to link to the activity, select the option titled + New Grade Item.
Then enter the details of your grade item and select Save to finish.
