Who Owns Your Docs?

In the world of Google Workspace, "Sharing" is the default. We collaborate on Docs, Sheets, and Slides seamlessly, but there is one detail we often overlook: The Owner.

Knowing who owns the files you use daily is the secret to avoiding "orphaned" data, accidental deletions, and security blind spots.

Take a moment to peek under the hood of  your most-used Google files.  Who's the owner?

An instructional graphic showing how to search Google Drive for files not owned by the user. The image highlights the search bar containing the syntax "-owner:me" and a dropdown menu where "Not owned by me" is selected under the Owner filter. Text instructions on the side explain how to use the filter icon or the search operator to exclude personal files.

Use the advanced search options by clicking the filter icon in the search bar, opening the "Owner" dropdown menu, and selecting "Not owned by me."
