The University DoIT department kicked back and celebrated a year of achievements at their first (potential annual) BBQ on Tuesday, July 16th. Despite the heat, laughter filled the air, and staff and student workers enjoyed a well-deserved break to connect and unwind.
The festivities kicked off with a warm welcome from Simeon Ananou, Vice President for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer, who took the opportunity to acknowledge the team's hard work. Highlighting his first eleven months at the helm, he expressed his gratitude for DoIT's hard work on projects that improved PeopleSoft; moved campus to new LMS Brightspace, upgraded to a new, smarter phone system; simplified FAFSA, and improved classroom technology systems in the newly renovated Javits Lecture Center.
The BBQ wasn't just about celebrating accomplishments – it was also a chance for colleagues to catch up in person. After another year of navigating the virtual landscape, the in-person gathering provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect and build rapport outside the usual work environment.
Special thanks to those on the BBQ planning committee! The delicious summer spread offered something for everyone, fueling the afternoon of good company and camaraderie. From juicy burgers and refreshing drinks to a variety of sides and desserts, it was a feast fit for a team of champions.
The DoIT BBQ served as a perfect reminder of the power of teamwork and collaboration. As the team looks ahead to the coming year, they do so with renewed energy and a strong sense of community, fostered by the annual BBQ tradition. “The year ahead holds immense promise for Stony Brook’s journey forward in technology and innovation due in large part to the team assembled here today,” commented Simeon Ananou. “Institutionally we are poised to leverage opportunities, embrace challenges and partner with members of the campus community to reach new heights in information technology.”
