Campus Solutions Successful Migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
We started this year with a successful migration of our on-premise PeopleSoft Student Information System to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) during the first week of January. For reference, this successful migration greatly improves the University's ability to serve students by shifting the system from outdated and unsupported on-premise hardware to modern, supported, cloud-based scalable and redundant infrastructure. This complex project, which started several months ago, could not have reached a successful completion without the strong partnership between DoIT and many student-facing offices throughout the University. For several months, our colleagues from various offices came together to plan very meticulously all migration efforts, test a variety of systems configurations, establish firewall rules, and validate systems integrations necessary for the good functioning of the overall Student Information System.
OCI's on-demand nature provides universities with the flexibility to scale their SIS resources up or down effortlessly based on enrollment fluctuations, peak periods, and evolving needs without needing to go through a procurement process. This eliminates the need for costly hardware upgrades and infrastructure overhauls, allowing for agile adaptation to changing demands.
As you can imagine, a complex project of this magnitude came with a set of challenges. In fact, we did experience some additional significant issues in the final stages of the project last weekend. Despite these hurdles, the dedication and the tenacity of our technical and non-technical personnel prevailed, and we have been in OCI for the last few weeks.
OCI's global network of data centers boasts cutting-edge technologies and robust security measures, ensuring exceptional performance and uptime of the system. This translates to faster response times, smoother user experiences, and minimized downtime that disrupts student workflows.
OCI adheres to the highest security standards and compliance regulations, safeguarding sensitive student data. Its multi-layered security approach, including encryption, access controls, and intrusion detection, minimizes security risks and ensures data privacy.
Migrating our Student Information System to OCI is not just a technological shift; it's a strategic move that unlocks a wealth of benefits. From enhanced agility and scalability to improved security and cost optimization, OCI empowers us to deliver a superior student experience while laying the groundwork for future innovation and growth.
