  1. In an effort to maintain efficiency and reliability of computer equipment at Stony Brook University, DoIT's Customer Engagement and Support department has instituted software support standards.

  2. MySBfiles is a network storage option for all students, faculty, and staff. Up to 2 GB of data can be stored in your personal MySBfiles which is backed up regularly on an automated basis by University servers. You can access your MySBfiles from on or off campus using a Web browser. 

    Note: Users on the UHMC domain will use their Home Directory ("U Drive") instead of MySBfiles. For information please call the UHMC Help Desk at 4-HELP.

    IMPORTANT UPDATE:  Access to MySBfiles via a web browser at https://mysbfiles.stonybrook.edu or SFTP will be discontinued as of 7/31/24.

     

  3. The Web Services team in the Office of Marketing and Communications provides training and support for the OU Campus Content Management System. A series of responsive page templates branded in the Stony Brook look and feel have been designed to give non-technical administrative personnel the ability to quickly update content without having to be a graphic designer or programmer.

The WolfieNet-Secure wireless network is one of SBU networks available for connecting via WiFi to many of the SBU Campus resources and internet access.  WolfieNet-Secure is the recommended network for all students, faculty, and staff while on campus.  Use your NetID to gain access to this secure network for your personal mobile devices.

     

     

  11. To prevent the inadvertent transfer of sensitive and/or personal data to unauthorized parties, the New York State Office of General Services (NYS-OGS) requires all surplus IT equipment to be cleansed of all data before disposing or repurposing. It is expected that all data be erased from the hard drive (and any other media) in such a manner that it cannot be recovered. Customer Engagement and Support can provide this service on an as-needed basis. It is recommended that when repurposing equipment (e.g. moving machines between personnel or departments), that the machine be cleaned of any University data before the swap.

  12. Stony Brook's Data Network Services and IT Security teams added additional security to the campus network during the summer of 2010. A network name server was implemented to check the URLs of websites that users on campus visit against a list of known distributors of malware. Instead of visiting a site that is known to be a distributor of malware, the Web browser is redirected to a malware shield (Web page) which advises users why the site they are trying to reach may have been flagged as being potentially harmful.

  13. OnBase is a document management system available for University departments who are interested in eliminating paper and managing their business files.  

  14. NVivo is software for gaining richer insights from qualitative and mixed-methods data.

  15. Schedule Builder is a web-based program that allows students to build their Stony Brook class schedules much quicker and easier.

  16. 50 GB file storage accessible in the cloud that you can access and share from any phone, tablet or computer.  OneDrive provides the ability to create, edit and share files without software, just Internet access.   And you can work with other people in realtime on Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote files.  

  17. WolfieNet-Secure is Stony Brook University's recommended wireless network on West Campus, Southampton, Manhattan, and parts of East Campus. It is available to all faculty, students, and staff. New locations continue to be added as wireless technology and equipment continues to be upgraded and enhanced in order to handle the growing number of devices seeking to connect to the network. For visitors to the University, WolfieNet-Guest is the recommended network to use.

  18. The Virtual SINC Site provides a way for students, faculty, and staff members to access site-licensed, academic software titles directly from their personal computers from either on or off campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students can also use the Virtual SINC Site to access the Print From Anywhere service using any device or operating system.
