For visitors to the University, WolfieNet-Guest is the recommended network to use.

SOLAR is Stony Brook University's enterprise-wide, self-service system which provides faculty, staff, and students with online access to manage personal information. Students use SOLAR to register for classes, print schedules, view and pay bills, update personal contact information, view transcripts, and submit student employment timesheets. Employees use SOLAR to update personal contact information, view vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, and much more.

     

  11. To prevent the inadvertent transfer of sensitive and/or personal data to unauthorized parties, the New York State Office of General Services (NYS-OGS) requires all surplus IT equipment to be cleansed of all data before disposing or repurposing. It is expected that all data be erased from the hard drive (and any other media) in such a manner that it cannot be recovered. Customer Engagement and Support can provide this service on an as-needed basis. It is recommended that when repurposing equipment (e.g. moving machines between personnel or departments), that the machine be cleaned of any University data before the swap.

In an effort to decrease the number of passwords required to access computing applications across the University, DoIT has incrementally implemented its Web-based, NetID Single Sign On (SSO) service since 2008. Users can log in to campus applications such as Google Apps for Education and WolfMart without having to sign on multiple times or remember many passwords. The SSO service is only used for those applications accessed through a Web browser. Client-based applications, such as the mail client on a smart phone, do not use the Stony Brook SSO.

     

     

  13. Use getwolfienet.com to properly configure laptop computers, mobile devices and tablets to make for a quicker and easier connection to WolfieNet-Secure.

  14. The WolfieNet-Secure wireless network is one of SBU networks available for connecting via WiFi to many of the SBU Campus resources and internet access.  WolfieNet-Secure is the recommended network for all students, faculty, and staff while on campus.  Use your NetID to gain access to this secure network for your personal mobile devices.

  16. Network Services provides the cabling infrastructure for the University which serves all voice, data, and television needs. This includes indoor station cabling (jacks) and outdoor, underground feeds.

  17. Using the Self Service  app from the applications folder will allow you to install or re-install applications without needing administrative rights.  This is only available for Macs that are managed by DoIT.

  19. Commonly referred to as Echo, Echo360 is a versatile and reliable system that automatically captures lectures and converts classroom voice, video, and visual-aids into high-quality media files. These media files can be accessed online from devices such as tablets, phones, and computers. Instructors can also utilize Universal Capture (Personal), which allows them to record from their own computers.

  20. Google Groups makes it easy for groups of people - such as project teams, departments, or classmates - to communicate and collaborate over topics of common interest.  Request a Google Group for easy group email distribution.
