Incoming Duo Telephony Change

Updating the Duo login process

In our continuous effort to provide a secure computing environment across campus, we are making an important update to your Duo login experience. Over the next few months, we will be phasing out the use of telephony (text messages and voice calls) for Duo authentication.

What’s Changing?

The primary change is the removal of phone calls and SMS text messages as methods for Duo authentication. Moving forward, you'll need to use alternative authentication methods such as the Duo Mobile app, hardware tokens, or other supported options to access your accounts.

What You Need to Do:

If you currently rely on SMS or voice calls for Duo authentication, it's essential to switch to the Duo Mobile app or another supported method as soon as possible. The Duo Mobile app is a convenient and secure way to authenticate, and setting it up is quick and easy. Detailed instructions on how to set up the Duo Mobile app are available on the Duo support page.

Why We Are Making This Change:

Telephony methods, including SMS and voice calls, are more susceptible to interception and fraud compared to other authentication methods. We have observed increasing attacks targeting these less secure authentication methods. To align with industry-standard security practices and enhance the protection of our campus community, we have decided to eliminate these vulnerable methods.
