Total size limit of a Google email, including any attachments, is 25MB. That is enough for most text-based documents and even many pictures, but if you need to send a larger file or many files, you can use Google Drive. You can either share the file directly through Drive or insert Drive files in Google Mail.

Benefits to "sending" files through Drive instead of as standard attachments include

  • Being able to share larger files (several GBs in size instead of just 25MB)
  • Keeping control over your files (as you can change the sharing permissions on the file at any time)
