In Google Mail, you can have your mail automatically sorted into tabs. If you enable this setting, you can also "program" messages to go to specific tabs, so if your boss's emails are ending up in the Promotions tab, you can easily set them to automatically go to the Primary tab:

  1. Select the message you want to go to a different tab
  2. Drag and drop the message to the tab where you want it to go
  3. In the yellow message banner that appears at the top, click Yes to have future messages of that type also go to that tab
steps to move a conversation to another tab
  4. A yellow banner will display at the top confirming your setting
confirmation message that shows future messages will be moved to selected tab
