Martin Tessler

Senior Director of Financial Operations

Martin joined Stony Brook University’s Division of Information Technology in February 2020.  As the Senior Director of Financial Operations, his main tasks are to provide real-time financial performance tracking including managing multi-year all-funds budgets.  Other tasks include creating ROI models, strategic planning, and establishing metrics and insights to assist in spending decisions.  Martin leads a team of 4 DoIT Business Office teammates whose responsibilities include (but aren’t limited to) “procure to pay” activities, account analysis, and infrastructure billing.  He also performs these duties for the University’s Executive Office, and the Office of Government & Community Relations.  He has also served as a leader in the University’s WolfieONE ERP implementation and is a member of The University’s Budget Planning Committee.

Before joining Stony Brook University, Martin accumulated over 20 years of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) experience across various industries, including international banking (JPMorgan), telecommunications (Cablevision), and Information Technology (SmartSource).  He holds an MBA in Finance from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The University at Albany.

Stony Brook connection: Martin grew up in Port Jefferson Station and used to sneak into Pritchard Gym to shoot hoops in the late 1990s!  He now resides in Massapequa Park with his wife Kathleen and his daughter (Kiersten) and son (Russell).  His hobbies include telling bad dad jokes, bowling, going to live sporting events, and watching classic game shows.
