A New Era of Digital Governance at Stony Brook
Published: 11/14/2024
At the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year, I announced that after hearing your feedback, as part of my campus wide listening tour, DoIT would be taking steps to create and implement a digital governance framework, designed to help maintain an alignment between Our Moment, and our IT strategic vision of Innovating to Elevate.
I am delighted to now share our Digital Governance 1.0 framework with the campus community. This framework outlines how DoIT will ensure resources, investments and partnerships are leveraged to implement projects that will enhance the University experience for everyone, while also effectively supporting Stony Brook University's strategic mission and goals.

As you’ll see in the video, our Digital Governance 1.0 framework is built upon five key principles:
- Alignment: Ensuring digital resources and investments are aligned with the University's strategic mission and goals
- Inclusivity: Involving decision-makers who represent the broader campus community
- Transparency: Increasing transparency of digital initiatives across the University
- Partnership: Fostering partnership across the University
- Efficiency: Creating and maintaining a simple and efficient process
We believe that by adhering to these principles, we can foster greater partnerships, a more collaborative, transparent, and effective approach to digital governance. I encourage you to watch the video message to learn more about how Digital Governance 1.0 will shape our digital future.
I am grateful to those who have provided input into the design of the digital governance framework. The committees mentioned in the video will begin taking shape throughout the remainder of the 2024 calendar year with the expectation that our Digital Governance 1.0 will go into effect on January 1, 2025.
