In early September 2020, Gmail on the web and Android will get a new integrated experience including Chat, shared tasks, shared documents, and document editing right in Gmail.
What’s staying the same and what’s changing
Same: Gmail functionality and existing Google Chat functions remain the same.
Different: You will be able to use Google Chat Rooms as project or team workspaces with not only shared chat messages, but also shared documents and shared/assigned tasks. You will even be able to edit shared documents right in Gmail. Watch the Video demo to see a preview.
What you need to do (nothing!)
The new integrated experience will roll out to Stony Brook University Google users gradually during the first weeks in September. To be sure you can use these features, make sure Chat is turned on in Gmail. Otherwise, you don’t need to do anything.
