Blocking External AI Summary Tools

As a host of a meeting, you may notice that one of your participants is using an AI summary tool (such as Otter.AI or Read.AI) to transcribe and summarize your meeting for their own reference. For security reasons, these tools are not recommended by DoIT. Instead we recommend Zoom's AI Companion for transcription and meeting summaries. To block these external summary tools from being used in your meeting, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Zoom Portal at Stonybrook.Zoom.Us
  2. Sign in using your NetID and Password
  3. Go to your Settings
  4. Choose to view Meeting Settings
  5. Select Security under the Meeting Settings
Settings area of Zoom. The Meeting settings tab is selected, and under that the image highlights the security settings option.
  1. Look for the setting titled Block users in specific domains from joining meetings and webinars and enable it
  2. Select the Pencil Icon and manually type in the domains of the summary tools you wish to block, separated by commas. IE: Otter.AI, Read.AI
Zoom setting "Block users in specific domains from joining meetings and webinars" enabled. Domains typed to be blocked are otter.ai and read.ai.
  1. Select Save to finish

Removing AI Summaries From a Meeting in Progress

If you notice an AI Summary tool in your meeting that you have not yet blocked the domain for, you can manually remove the tool from your meeting in the same way that you can remove participants.
