SOLAR System

The online self-service system used by University students, faculty and staff to manage personal information, register for classes, submit grades, etc. Access to employee-related SOLAR pages is retained for 30 days after termination of employment. Individuals who have other relationships to Stony Brook (students, alumni, instructors, emeritus faculty and other non-salaried affiliates) will retain access to SOLAR pages related to those areas as long as those relationships continue.

NetID

Used for access to University services such as library databases and ejournals, Google Apps for Education, SharePoint, WolfieNet wireless, VPN, Blackboard, MySBfiles, SINC Site computers and printers, SUNYSB.edu domain, SUNYSB.edu administrative shares, and more) - Only remains active for enrolled students, active employees, and emeritus faculty. This account is not active for retirees who are not emeritus.

Google Mail/Google Drive

Since access to Google Mail and Google Drive requires an active NetID, retirees will lose access to their Stony Brook Google account one day after the last effective work date entered in the University's administrative system (PeopleSoft). This is when Google accounts are disabled for employees separating from the University.

Retirees have the option of requesting an email account on Stony Brook's retiree domain, however, it will be up to the retiree to migrate their data from the old account to the new account, so retirees should plan in advance and migrate any important messages and files in advance of their last effective working date.

Questions?

Please note that the extension of these accounts is provided as a courtesy to retired employees and emeritus faculty but does not apply to employees who separate from the University for other reasons. Emeritus faculty have been invited by the University President to append the term Emeritus to their title of academic rank following their retirement. Learn more about emeritus faculty on the Provost's website.
