Dear Colleagues,

Every day I continue to be impressed and encouraged by the amount of care so many take to ensure that the data we are entrusted to protect stays safe. As you have likely heard me say in the past, cyber adversaries do not let up when we are under pressure. On the contrary, they try harder to hurt us when they see we are vulnerable.

With this reality in mind, we have enhanced our cybersecurity awareness training program to better align with the threats we face on a daily basis. In addition to the regular internal phishing exercises we have been doing to reinforce our training efforts, later today you will receive an invite to take a new set of online training videos hosted by a leading security awareness vendor, KnowBe4. This baseline set of cybersecurity training videos will replace the SANS Securing the Human training platform we have used previously but will be accessible via the same link we’ve always used:

https://safecomputing.stonybrook.edu

While taking this training, you may learn something new. For others, this program will serve to remind you of precautions and internal policies you are already well aware of. In any case, while we hope you will complete this baseline training sooner, it must be completed within six months of enrollment. This timeline will ensure that everyone within the organization has a baseline of knowledge and will afford us the opportunity to provide complimentary training and reminders periodically throughout the year.

As always, if you have any questions or need additional support, you can contact our department by opening a service request at https://service.stonybrook.edu, or by calling 631-632-9800. If you have specific comments about the training program, please reach out directly to our hard-working Security Training and Awareness Working Group (STAWG) by sending an email to ispc_stawg@stonybrook.edu. I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank them for the amount of time and effort they have already put in to ensure our cybersecurity training efforts are effective and relevant.

Thanks all and stay safe!
