Advantages of SafeAssign
Academic dishonesty at Stony Brook is a serious offense.
Students caught plagiarizing are sent to Academic Judiciary, where they will be penalized based on the severity of their offense.
One way faculty members can screen student work for plagiarism is by using SafeAssign.
What Can SafeAssign Do?
Blackboard's SafeAssign feature allows faculty to compare student papers to the following databases as a way to detect possible plagarized content.
- - Internet: Comprehensive index of documents available for public access on the internet.
- - ProQuest ABI/Inform database: More than 1,100 publication titles and about 2.6 million articles from 1990 to present time, updated weekly (exclusive access).
- - Institutional document archives: Contains all papers submitted to SafeAssign by users in their respective institutions.
- - Global Reference Database: Contains papers that were volunteered by students from Blackboard client institutions to help prevent cross-institution plagiarism.
Faculty members can set up assignments linked to the Grade Center for students to upload their work and upload individual documents to check for plagarism.

SafeAssign Originality Reports allow you to easily see the results of the plagarism scan, with a list of potential sources and highlighted text.
Grading With SafeAssign
