This article will highlight some of the problems you might find if you are not logged in correctly into Zoom using Stony Brook Licensed Account.

The Problems

  • you are the host of the meeting but Zoom doesn't detect you as the host
  • you can't access a SBU class that's on Zoom
  • you find that you cannot share your screen but you are the host
  • others cannot find you in the system to add you as an Alternative Host
  • you didn't choose "Sign in with SSO" when logging into Zoom
  • you are missing features and settings
  • your meetings end after 40 minutes

The Solutions

To log into Zoom, always select Sign in with SSO and then when prompted enter your NetID and NetID password. If you are prompted to enter a domain, it is stonybrook - one word, all lowercase.

Log in using SSO in all three of these places to solve the above problems: 1. Zoom Web Portal, 2. Zoom Application, and 3. Zoom for G-Suite Add-on (if you use Google Mail/Google Calendar):

  3. Google Apps users: Log into and authorize the Zoom for G-Suite Add-onhttps://it.stonybrook.edu/help/kb/using-the-zoom-add-on-for-google

*If you are staff and do not teach classes, you also may want to change the global setting to allow all participants to share their screen for each future meeting to save time. This is not recommended for instructors who teach classes.

*Outlook calendar users may use the Outlook Plugin.
