Install/Update antivirus software
-
Symantec Antivirus is free for students via Softweb.cc.stonybrook.edu

Lastpass Premium is a password manager available for Stony Brook students
-
Two-step Login - Duo push (smartphone/tablet app) is the most secure and convenient option for authentication
-
Never share passwords
-
Be mindful of where your devices are; do not leave them unattended
-
Use your Stony Brook email for Stony Brook work and business, never a personal email address. And don’t use your Stony Brook email for personal matters.
Here are some of the top scams currently affecting students
Beware of Scams targeting College and Graduate Students
-
Tuition payments should only be made through Solar or Student Financial Services
-
Completing financial aid forms, especially a FAFSA form, does not cost anything to fill out, so don’t fall for a fake fee scam
-
Research thoroughly into any business before providing personal financial information or credit card information. Make sure that the website is a secure website (https://).
-
Never give your personal information to anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
-
If someone you know contacts you via email to conduct a financial transaction (e.g. buying a gift card), make sure you speak with them personally to confirm it is a legitimate request before doing so.
