Beginning this semester, students will be able to use the entirety of their printing quota during the semester without weekly restrictions. Students can print up to 2,100 pages, after which additional pages can be purchased using Wolfie Wallet.

The new system allows students to adjust how much they print as their needs change throughout the semester. For instance, a student’s printing needs may be higher at the beginning of the semester when course materials become available, but taper towards the middle of the semester. By having access to the entirety of their printing quota, students can plan for their individual needs.

DoIT’s Teaching, Learning & Technology (TLT) department made the decision to switch from a weekly quota to a semester-long quota after actively reaching out to students over the course of the past two semesters for feedback. After talking to students in the Residence Hall Association, DoIT student employees and other campus groups, it became clear that students needed a more flexible quota.

“What was frustrating was that some students didn't need to print the previous week, but they ran out of pages the following week,” said Diana Voss, manager of TLT’s Academic Technology Services team. “They had to print a biology lab or a paper and they didn't have enough pages in their quota.”

By providing students with a quota for the semester, Stony Brook continues to provide students with the best access to printing in the SUNY system.
