LMS Access for Spring 2023 Courses

By DoIT Communications

Dear Colleagues,

As we prepare for Spring 2023, we would like to update you on our LMS transition efforts and what resources are available to you as you prepare to move to, or continue to use, Brightspace.

To log into Brightspace, go to: https://brightspace.stonybrook.edu and click “Launch Brightspace” to log in with your SBU NetID

Once you log into Brightspace, you will have access to:

  • an empty “Sandbox” that is yours to practice in
  • “Spring 2022 Blackboard course copy” in My Courses under “Conversions”

When will I have access to my Spring 2023 Brightspace course shell?

You will have access to your Spring 2023 courses by October 17, 2022.

Can I continue to teach in Blackboard in Spring 2023?

If you would like to teach in Blackboard in Spring 2023, you will have to request access. Once requested, please allow up to 5 business days for the course to be created. You will need to set your Brightspace course to inactive prior to the start of the spring semester. Starting in Summer 2023, all courses will be offered in Brightspace.

My course has not been moved over from Blackboard to Brightspace. What should I do?

All Blackboard courses from Fall 2021, Winter 2022, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 will be moved to Brightspace by the end of October. If you have any courses that were not taught during that time period and would like them moved over, email academictechnologies@stonybrook.edu with the course/semester information.

How can I get training or assistance with Brightspace?

There are a variety of options!

  • Attend a Mini Byte and Workshop: DoIT and Brightspace are offering workshops. These will be announced through Campus Announcements and posted on the IT Events calendar.
  • Join the Brightspace Community: We encourage everyone to join the Brightspace Community at: https://community.brightspace.com.
  • Sign up for a Brightspace Consultation: Meet with someone from DoIT and/or CELT, depending on your needs, to focus on specific questions you have about your course in Brightspace.
  • Help Desk Options: For extended support, SUNY’s helpdesk can be reached at: 1-844-673-6786, available Monday - Friday 7am - Midnight, Saturday 10am - 8pm, and Sunday 10am - 9pm EST. For schedule updates, visit: online.suny.edu/help. For SBU-related questions, open a ticket or call DoIT at 631-632-9800.
