Apple Devices are at Risk, Action Required

Hello All:

Apple has announced that there is a zero-day vulnerability in its products that is actively being exploited to hack targeted iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Fortunately, Apple has already released patches to protect against this risk for iOS, iPadOS and MacOS.

What should I do?
Please check for and install available updates on all your Apple devices as soon as you can. Encourage friends and family to do the same! Devices managed by DoIT are already in the process of being updated.

  •  For iPhones and iPads, you can go to Settings → General → Software Update to update your device and to confirm that automatic updates are enabled.
  • For Mac computers, you can go to System Preferences → Software Update. Install available updates and confirm that the option to “Automatically keep my Mac up to date” is checked.

Operate with elevated caution until your device is fully patched. If you are unable to update your device today, please do not install any new software, browse the web, or click on links for websites you are not sure are safe from an unpatched device.

If you need assistance updating your device, please either call 2-9800 or ask for help at the IT Service Portal https://service.stonybrook.edu/.

Thank you for your diligence and attention to this matter.
