Using Chat and SMS Text Messages from Mobile Devices without Using Google Hangouts

Starting July 15th, 2020, the Google Hangouts app will not work on mobile devices anymore. Android and iOS users an use the Google Chat app for chat. iOS and Android users can use built-in messaging apps for text messaging.

Starting July 15th, 2020, the Google Hangouts app will not work on mobile devices anymore.

  • For chat functionality on iOS or Android (not text messages to phones), download and use the Google Chat app.
  • On iOS, use another app for text/SMS messages like the built-in messaging app.
  • On Android, if you used Google Hangouts as your text messaging app (SMS & MMS), switch to another text messaging app to continue sending and receiving text messages (SMS & MMS). See full instructions.
