Moderating Google Group Email and Posts

Managers can choose to moderate (require approval or rejection) messages that go to the group and what is posted on the group's discussion board forum online. When message moderation is enabled, managers will receive an email stating there is a message waiting for approval. These messages can be found in the Pending menu.

Moderate All Messages Within the Group

  1. Go to your groups at groups.google.com
  2. On the Welcome screen, click My groups (either on the top left or in the center) 
  3. The next screen lists the groups you belong to; click Manage by the name of the group that you want to moderate messages for (note:o you can moderate messages for any group that says (Manager) after it).

  4. Under Settings, click Moderation
  5. Check "Moderate all messages to the group"
  6. Click Save

Moderate an Individual Member's Posts

  1. Go to your groups >  My groups > click Manage by the group you want to moderate
  2. On the left under Members > All members, you will see a list of all members of the group, their roles, email, delivery (how they receive group messages), when they joined the group, and Posting permissions.
    • Posting will either by Allowed, Banned, or Moderated.
       
  3. To Moderate a member's posts and emails, select the member and click ActionsSet Posting Permission Override - Moderated posting

Check for and Approve/Reject Pending Messages

Managers can learn about pending messages two ways:

  • Go to their group's discussion board forum to see there is a pending message
  • From an email notification about a pending messages

Approve/Reject Pending Messages

  1. Go to the group's Manage > Messages > Pending Messages
  2. Put a check next to the message
  3. Select one of the action buttons on top: post post (approve), post and approve future posts post and always allow, spam spam, or trash trash
    moderate pending messages through 1. messages > pending 2. select message and 3. select post, post and approve future, spam, or trash
  4. If post or post and always allow is selected, the message will post to the group immediately
