If you need content from Blackboard that is not currently in Brightspace, you can export your course from Blackboard and then import it into a Brightspace course shell. The instructions below demonstrate how to download an archive of a Blackboard course as a .ZIP file and then upload it into a course shell in Brightspace. Please note! Student data and data from 3rd party tools such as Echo360 and Voicethread will not migrate into Brightspace from Blackboard. For more information check out this article.
If you need access to a course that is not in Blackboard (because it’s older than 3 years) contact support by creating a service ticket at service.stonybrook.edu with the course Name, Course ID, Section # and Semester that you need.
Once you are finished importing your course into Brightspace, be sure to offset your dates for the next term in Course Tools > Course Admin > Manage Dates.
Export Blackboard Content and Import it into Brightspace
- Log into Blackboard and go into your Control Panel > Packages and Utilities > Export/Archive Course.
- Click on the Export Package tab.

- Log into Brightspace (mycourses.stonybrook.edu) in Chrome or Firefox (avoid Safari for copy/export/import)
- Select the course you would like to import content to (by finding that course under My Courses or by clicking
near the top center and choosing the course from the list)
- Once in your course, click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner and select Import/Export/Copy Components
- Select Import Components then click Start.
- Click on Upload and select your .zip file. Now select Import All Components.
*Importing process may take a few minutes depending on size of .zip file*
