Stony Brook University Affiliates have basic Zoom accounts (instead of *licensed accounts) in Zoom. Basic Zoom accounts have slightly limited functionality.
In order for an affiliate to receive an upgraded licensed Zoom Account the department should contact Theresa O'Connell <Theresa.oconnell@stonybrook.edu> on the affiliate's behalf.
The email must include:
- Name of affiliate(s)
- Explanation or justification as to why they require the license
- The department's state account number
- A statement of committment and understanding that these licenses cannot be canceled until the end of the Zoom contract which is currently March 2025
Affiliates/Basic Zoom Account Limitations
Basic Zoom Account Users
- Cannot record to the cloud (basic users can record locally to their computer)
- Cannot be an alternative host
- Cannot use schedule privilege to assign others to schedule or schedule on behalf of others
- Cannot utilize account add-ons such as conference room connector
- Cannot be assigned user add-ons such as large meeting, webinar, or personal audio conference
- Cannot Customize Personal Link
Temporary Features in Basic Zoom Accounts
Basic Zoom Account Users have these temporary features through June 2022
- Can have up to 1,000 participants per meeting (instead of 100 participants per meeting after June 2022)
- Can have meetings longer than 40 minutes (instead of, after June 2022, meetings timing out after 40 minutes if 3 or more participants join)
*Licensed accounts are granted to those who are listed in Peoplesoft as "InstructorActive", "StudentEnrolled", and "EmployeeActive-SBU"
