In an effort to enable flexible teaching options for face-to-face and remote students in Fall 2020, DoIT is making every effort to update classroom technologies in rooms where face-to-face instruction is scheduled to take place.

To assist with instructional planning and preparation, we've updated the AV Service page to serve as a repository for information, training resources, and classroom status updates. On this spreadsheet  you'll find daily updates on the status of our work in classrooms, so check back regularly to find out the status of your scheduled rooms.

A demonstration room with the technology we're installing is available in Javits Lecture Center, Room 105, by appointment only  for those who would like to get acquainted with the technology setup in advance of the semester.  Appointments should be made via service ticket at service.stonybrook.edu, or via e-mail at avservices@stonybrook.edu.  A video tutorial of the technology setup is also availabe.

Faculty: A few important points with regard to our preparations for everyone’s safety and hygiene in general purpose classrooms:

  • Our AV services team will be providing services remotely as our first level of support in order to maintain social distancing. We ask that instructors be patient while we attempt to resolve your issues.

  • The AV student workforce is reduced this Fall given the increase in online-only courses, which may reduce our ability to respond as quickly as you have come to expect.

  • We encourage you to leverage the extra time between classes to set up your classroom technology prior to class starting, to avoid unnecessary service calls at the last minute.

  • We are enforcing the campus guidelines regarding face coverings, and instructors or teaching assistants who do not abide by physical distancing guidelines or wearing of facial coverings while receiving assistance will be denied service.

  • Facial coverings are required for service at all Tech Stations and Learning Space support sites

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this initiative, please contact avservices@stonybrook.edu or call 631.632.9400. We are here to help!
