The Retention Center in Blackboard gathers data from across the course to show faculty at-risk patterns of behavior in their students. It requires no set up from the instructor and displays a list of students who are at risk for failing the course. This allows instructors to catch and respond to students quickly, while there is time to help the students succeed in the course.
The Retention Center allows you to:
- Email students that are at risk.
- Monitor students at risk.
- Set up custom rules for your class. This includes ways to determine high performing students in your class.
You can access the Retention Center from the My Blackboard Navigation or from inside your Course:

The Default Rules the Retention Center checks are:
- Deadline Rule - 1 Deadline missed. To use this you must use Due Dates on your assignments.
- Grade Rule - The student's External Grade is 25% below the class average.
- Activity Rule - The student's activity in the last week is 20% below course average.
- Course Access Rule - The student has not accessed the course in more then 5 days.
