Intro to R for Windows

R is a programming language used for data analysis and statistics, and it is useful for those interested in careers involving data science or in any business fields. Users may use R for comparing, manipulating and analyzing data.  RStudio is the convenient interface for using the R language, and  both can be downloaded for free.  Stony Brook students may access R through RStudio on the Virtual SINC Site (https://it.stonybrook.edu/services/virtual-sinc-site), or through SINC Site Computers (https://it.stonybrook.edu/services/sinc-sites).

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  1. Set your working directory, read files, and understand the RStudio interface.
  2. Create vectors, matrices, data frames and complete basic calculations with data.
  3. Make a linear regression, perform basic data analysis and create a scatter plot.
  4. Compute frequency and relative frequency distributions of qualitative data.
  5. Make visual representations using qualitative data.
