Stony Brook University is one of 600+ universities internationally that will be participating in "Recyclemania 2013," which pits colleges and universities to compete for stewardship bragging rights over which institution can reduce, reuse and recycle the most waste. Over an eight-week period from February 3 to March 30, participating schools compete in various categories measuring the success of their recycling, waste reduction and sustainability efforts. To help Stony Brook earn a high finish in 2013, all faculty and staff are asked to recycle old IT equipment and electronic devices that may be laying around their offices. If you have old computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, or any other type of e-waste, please contact the Office of Sustainability at (631) 632-9673 or (631) 632-6219. You can also send an email to email@example.com.
DoIT is partnering with the Procurement Office and the Office of Sustainability to lead the Project 50 Forward Managed Output Project (MOP), which is working to decrease the University's carbon footprint by reviewing paper usage and developing solutions to reduce, recycle and implement output savings. During the past year, this project saved 800,000 pages per semester simply by removing student cover pages from TLT SINC Sites. Plans for the future include implementing a comprehensive University toner recycling program and looking for ways to streamline document workflow throughout the campus.
