Airplay to an AppleTV from an iOS Device on WolfieNet-Secure

As of AppleTV Software version 6.1, users can now Airplay to AppleTVs on WolfieNet-Secure using Bluetooth discovery.

As of Apple TV software update v6.1 the Apple TV can now be discovered using Bluetooth, allowing iOS devices to Airplay to an Apple TV on the campus wired network. The following are the requirements for connecting an iOS device to an Apple TV via AirPlay:

Requirements:

  • Apple TV with version 6.1 or later
  • iOS device with version 7.1 or later
  • Devices must both be on a campus network (i.e. WolfieNet-Secure, ResNet)
  • Apple TV must be on a wired network (ResNet, Admin)
  • Bluetooth 4.0 compatible devices:
    • iPhone 4S or later
    • iPod Touch 5th Generation
    • iPad 3rd Generation or later
    • iPad Air
    • iPad Mini
    • Apple TV 3rd Generation or later

Instructions:

  1. Ensure your iOS device is connected to WolfieNet-Secure
  2. Ensure your Apple TV is connected to a campus network as well (i.e. ResNet, Admin).
  3. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen on your iOS device and choose "AirPlay" or choose the AirPlay icon from an App that supports AirPlay. 
  4. Choose the name of your AppleTV.
  5. When prompted, enter the code that appears on the TV into the prompt on your iOS device and choose "OK".
  6. To disconnect, return to the AirPlay menu and select your device name (i.e. iPad, iPhone, etc.).
