As long as you have a valid subscription and your clicker is registered to your Turning Technologies account, you can use the clicker in as many classes as you need for any given semester.  If you're using your clicker across multiple semesters, please make sure you have the appropriate subscription, as subscription validity ranges from 1, 2, and 5 years depending on how or what you purchased.

If you got your clicker from a friend, rented it, or bought it used, you will need to purchase a license code in order to register your clicker with your Turning Technologies account and use it in your class(es).

You can purchase your license code by going to https://store.turningtechnologies.com/ and creating an account.  When prompted for a school code, enter 4SBU.

Under Profile, you will see the subheading Subscriptions. Click Add/Purchase a Subscription then choose Purchase Subscription. Subscriptions for Turning Technologies accounts can be purchased in the following increments:

• One-year subscription - $24.99
• Two-year subscription - $35.99
• Five-year subscription - $48.99

Once you have purchased your subscription code you can go to the Response Devices subheading on the Profile page and click the Add button to enter the 6-digit Device ID.  This registers your clicker with your Turning Technologies account.

*Please note, purchasing a the one, two or five-year subscription code is different from purchasing a Responseware license, so please double-check to see what is required for your class(es).

In order to register your clicker and use it in your class(es), you will need to create a PointSolutions account first and add your Device ID to your account.  The easiest way to do this is through your course on Brightspace.

To register your clicker:

1. Log into Brightspace and go to one of your courses that uses Clickers

2. Find the "Turning Account Registration (clickers)" link in the Content area

3.  You will be redirected to the "NetID Single Sign On" page. Login with your NetID and NetID password

4. Follow the directions as seen or look here for further help

When registering your clicker on your Turning Technologies account, you need to enter the school code 4SBU so the system knows you're a Stony Brook University student.

If you registered your clicker without entering the school code, you need to contact Turning Technologies so they can update your account and link it to Stony Brook University.

If you lose or misplace your clicker and purchase a replacement, you need to add your new Device ID to your Turning Technologies account in order to use your new clicker in your class(es).  

Once you log into your Turning Technologies account and add your new clicker's Device ID, you will need to notify your instructor that you have a new clicker.  Your instructor needs to update their participant list so your new Device ID is on their roster, otherwise you may not get credit for answering clicker questions.

Turning Technologies clickers use two AAA batteries and last anywhere from 6 to 12 months depending on how often you use it.  Each clicker has a battery life indicator which tells you exactly how much power is left.

Each clicker purchased from either the University Bookstore or Turning Technologies will come with new AAA batteries.  Once the batteries are dead, they can be replaced by opening the battery cover on the back of the clicker.

Faculty can prevent students from giving other students their clickers for taking quizzes. Each pad has a unique serial number tied to just one student. A roster can be produced and printed with a list of first and last names and corresponding serial numbers. This list can be used to verify (via student ID card) that each student leaving the classroom has used their own pad.

We suggest that if you are concerned about cheating in your class - that you not allow the use of ResponseWare.

Turning Technologies receivers are installed in many locations, including all of the lecture halls in the Javits Lecture Center. TurningPoint AnyWhere software is also installed on all portable laptop computers supplied by Teaching, Learning + Technology. With a portable receiver and a USB connection, TurningPoint AnyWhere may be used in any classroom on campus. Portable receivers are available to instructors as part of a free instructor's kit.
